Paintings from an Itinerant Life
Exhibited at the Crane Kalman Gallery, 178 Brompton Road, London SW3 1HQ (t: +44 20 7584 7566), 8 November - 8 December 2007
Over the past six years, Jenny Franklin has divided her time between studios in Hyères (South of France), the Kuringai Park (Sydney) and London. Recurring themes such as stone rites, the ancient earth and primeval beginnings have continued to develop in her work, fuelled by the deep affinity she feels with the ancient, both geological and cultural. In addition, new themes have emerged, such as the flower and cactus series inspired by the gardens of Hyères. The clear Mediterranean light and the varied hues of the flora have resulted in a fresher and brighter palette. The process of metamorphosis remains a strong impulse, as reflected in such titles as 'Petal/Wing', 'Stone-Flower' and 'Stone Cloud'.
